A Special Christmas Story
By Jack the Donkey
My name is Jack and I am a donkey. I have a very important job to do today. My master Joseph has asked me to gently carry his betrothed, Mary, to Bethlehem so they can take part in the counting of the people by the Romans.
I have to be gentle and make sure I am sure footed; I can’t stumble because Mary is having a baby. Our family is really happy about the baby and everyone is excited.
It has been a very long journey to Bethlehem and we are all tired. I am munching on some fresh hay in a stable. All the hotels in the town are full so Mary and Joseph have to share our stable with us. The cattle and I have made a pact to watch over my very special family tonight.
I woke up from my dozing to the sounds of a baby crying. Oh my goodness, Mary has had her baby. There is a crowd of shepherds coming into the stable and they are all talking very fast about how the angels came to them in the fields and had said
“Today in the town of David a Saviour has been born to you; he is the Messiah, the Lord. This will be a sign to you: You will find a baby wrapped in cloths and lying in a manger.”
So they all came to see him.
I stand in silent wonder as I realize I carried the baby Jesus, the Saviour of mankind to Bethlehem.
